Do you enjoy sharing knowledge on natural history with museum visitors from all walks of life? Are you curious to know what we do at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) and the scientific research that goes on behind-the-scenes? Join us as part of LKCNHM’s volunteer docent family and be in the forefront of natural history happenings in the Southeast Asia region!

Role

Volunteer Docent at Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

Minimum Age

18 and above

Purpose and Responsibilities

  • To enhance visitor experience by interacting with the public and sharing information about the various exhibits and the biodiversity and heritage galleries
  • To assist the LKCNHM Outreach and Education Unit with their public indoor and outdoor programmes for museum outreach as facilitators

Commitment

At least once a month | Minimally commit for one year as a volunteer

Day/Time

Guided Gallery Tours – Weekends, 11 am & 1 pm (English), 2 pm (Mandarin)

Other outreach programmes – as needed

Skills and Qualification

No particular skills, experience or qualifications needed!

However, the essential criteria are:

  • Keen interest in natural history and heritage;
  • Willingness to make a commitment;
  • Enjoy sharing information with, and enthusing people.

Volunteer Training

All volunteers will be required to undergo training workshops organized by the LKCNHM Outreach and Education Unit (OEU). At the end of the training, new volunteers are required to write up a tour script for their gallery tours.
