Visit by Our Prime Minister

We are delighted that PM Lee and his wife took time out to visit our museum over the weekend.

During his visit, PM Lee took an awesome photograph of the Wallace & Ali statue, sculpted by students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. The statue features renowned British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, who spent 8 years studying the plants and animals of the Malay Archipelago, along with his trusted assistant Ali.

PM Lee also spotted the Fibonacci sequence displayed in our ammonite fossil (Arietites bucklandi). The photos below were artistically stitched together to illustrate the parallels between our museum’s spiral staircase and the swirling whorls of the ammonite and nautilus shells.

Our museum architect, Mr Mok Wei Wei said, “This captures our design inspiration succinctly, which often alludes to natural forms. For example, its rock-like geological massing, as well as the lush and tiered planting on the façade that reflects the coastal landscape of Singapore. Similarly, the spiral staircase within the exhibition space recalls the swirling geometry of an ammonite fossil.”
