Celebrating our 8th Anniversary

Celebrating our 8th Anniversary

The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) is celebrating our 8th anniversary on 18 April 2023! Eight years ago, on 18 April 2015, our Museum opened its doors and ushered in a new chapter of biodiversity research, education and outreach. Since then, the Museum has grown from strength to strength in scientific as well as biodiversity history research and education, building upon a rich legacy of more than a century of natural history engagement with the public. Coincidentally, this momentous date is shared by another important event in the history of our local biodiversity discoveries—the arrival of renowned naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace in Singapore 169 years ago!

To mark this synchronicity, we have a series of exciting initiatives throughout the year, designed to take you on a journey through the early works of natural history and the exploration that continues in Singapore even today. Join us in celebrating more than 200 years of natural history in Singapore together!

Heritage Gallery Video Launch: ‘Small Island, Big Data’

The premiere of our new Heritage Gallery video, ‘Small Island, Big Data’ is also not to be missed! Taking the screen near the Wallace Map of our Heritage Gallery, the video takes viewers through Singapore in the 1850s-1900s, tracing the steps of Wallace’s travels here. It also touches on the future of natural history, with the practice of digitisation (in light of our Museum initiative, SIGNIFY: A Digital Archive of Singapore’s Historical Biodiversity).
