Validation of Ocypode celadon (Crustacea: Brachyura: Ocypodidae), a distinctive ghost crab species from the Indian Ocean

Peter J. F. Davie, Peter K. L. Ng & Hsi-Te Shih

Abstract. The distinctive green ghost crab, Ocypode celadon, was recently described from material from the Indian Ocean by Davie et al. (2026) in the ‘Journal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research’ (2026). Unfortunately, because the journal is an electronic-only publication and the work did not include a ZooBank registration number, the name is not available for nomenclatural purposes. The present note validates the name Ocypode celadon by fulfilling the requirements of the current zoological code.

Key words. Decapoda, zoological nomenclature, unavailable name, International Code of Zoological Nomenclature
