VOYAGEURS, EXPLORATEURS ET SCIENTIFIQUES: THE FRENCH AND NATURAL HISTORY IN SINGAPORE

In 1819, the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles in Singapore set in motion a period of momentous scientific contribution by the French. French explorers, naturalists, diplomats, traders, counts and countesses visited Singapore and played a part in our natural history as they collected material and described numerous specimens from Singapore. The book ‘Voyageurs, Explorateurs et Scientifiques: The French and Natural History in Singapore’ is filled from cover to cover with such stories and records, all testament to the long history of collaboration between the two countries.

This book is produced in collaboration between the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum and the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris, France, with the generous sponsorship of the Total Foundation and support of the Singapore Bicentennial and the Embassy of France in Singapore. This digital version of the full print publication was made available to the public in August 2020. Visit here for more information on the book.
