LKCNHM ExxonMobil Biodiversity Conservation and Explorers Programme (BiCEP) 2023

POSTED ON BY Raphael Moey

The ExxonMobil Biodiversity Conservation and Explorers Programme aims to create awareness of Singapore’s natural heritage and equip participants with knowledge on conservation issues. Knowledge about our local biodiversity is an important first step to help us protect the precious ecosystems around us.

Through the use of natural history specimens in the Museum, students from participating Primary and Secondary schools learnt about Singapore’s biodiversity and related nature conservation topics.

Students were brought on a gallery tour to learn more about our local biodiversity.

Students were tasked to use resources from the Museum’s Singapore in Global Natural History Museums Information Facility (SIGNIFY) initiative to learn about some of Singapore’s first described animals.

Students were tasked to use resources from the Museum’s Singapore in Global Natural History Museums Information Facility (SIGNIFY) initiative to learn about some of Singapore’s first described animals.

Towards the end of the programme, the students were given the assignment of creating a poster (Primary School category) or video (Secondary School category) to spread awareness and generate interest in the conservation of a native wildlife species that was assigned to their groups.

At the end of the programme, three groups across all participating schools in each category were chosen as winners for the activity. In addition, an Environmental Steward, a student who has demonstrated great interest and/or knowledge on the topic of biodiversity and nature conservation, was chosen from each school. Both the top three student groups of each category and the Environmental Stewards were awarded gift vouchers and exclusive LKCNHM postcards featuring the terrestrial and marine biodiversity of Singapore.

We would like to showcase the works of the winning groups for the 2023 programme. Congratulations to all awardees!
