The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) is thrilled to collaborate with the ArtScience Museum on their latest exhibition, ‘Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath’, together with OceanX. This immersive experience invites visitors to descend from sunlit surface waters into the dark depths of the ocean, blending cutting-edge exploration footage, contemporary art, and real scientific specimens.
‘Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath’ opened on 6 June 2026 and runs until 1 November 2026 at the ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands. Other highlights include never-before-seen deep-sea footage from OceanX, interactive installations such as Dive and Discover and eDNA Detectives, multi-sensory artworks exploring cetacean echolocation and oceanic smellscapes, and opportunities for visitors to engage directly with marine conservation themes.
The exhibition is structured around five immersive zones: Descent, Photic Zone, Twilight Zone, Aphotic Zone, and Resurface. Within the Photic zone, LKCNHM’s coral specimens from local Singapore sites, as well as reef core samples from Cyrene Reef, Pulau Hantu, and Pulau Semakau, offer visitors a tangible connection to Singapore’s own marine heritage. The cores provide fascinating insights into how our reef systems have adapted and changed over the past 8,000 years amid evolving environmental conditions. These specimens were collected by the NUS Reef Ecology Lab, led by Assoc Prof Huang Danwei, Deputy Head of LKCNHM.

In addition, we contributed animal specimens collected during past deep-sea expeditions and surveys in regions such as Indonesia, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Visitors can view these rare specimens up close in the Aphotic Zone, illustrating the extraordinary biodiversity found in the ocean’s darkest, least-explored layers. The Museum staff assisted with the specimens displayed in this showcase.

This collaboration underscores the importance of bridging scientific research with public engagement. By making these specimens accessible alongside powerful visuals and interactive elements, the exhibition fosters greater awareness and appreciation for our oceans, from vibrant local reefs to fragile deep-sea ecosystems.

We invite everyone to experience this extraordinary journey for themselves. Whether you’re a marine enthusiast, a family looking for an educational outing, or simply curious about the wonders beneath the waves, there’s something here for all ages.
