FAQ (Programmes)

What sets the programmes offered by the museum apart from those of others?

We are the only natural history museum in Singapore, and have the largest collection of animal specimens. Therefore, we offer unique specimen-based programmes where participants have the opportunity to examine and learn about biodiversity using a variety of specimens.

Where are the programmes conducted?

All workshops will be conducted at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum. Guided walks will be conducted at the respective venues.

What are the materials provided?

Materials provided vary according to the type of programme. All materials are developed with consultation and feedback from museum curators and staff. Materials used have also been regularly refined based on feedback from our experience of working with various schools over the past 10 years. Kindly contact us to enquire on materials for specific programmes.

What are the specimens used for each workshop? Will every student get to handle the specimens?

A minimum of 20 specimens will be used per workshop. All students will get to handle the specimens as the class will be split into smaller groups to examine specimens. All specimens used in workshops have been specially prepared to be safe for handling.

Who are the facilitators? What is the facilitator to participant ratio?

All facilitators and instructors are graduates with at least a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences or Zoology, and have been trained to conduct the workshops and walks. Our facilitator to student ratio is 1:20.

Can programmes (workshops or guided walks) be customized according to my needs?

Yes. All programmes can be customized upon request, to accomodate different learning objectives. However, we do recommend a duration of at least 3 hours for workshops, to ensure participants achieve optimal learning. Kindly contact us for further discussion.

Can we have a mixture of different levels (e.g. Primary 3 – 6 students) for the programme?

Yes. It is possible to have a mix of different levels and ages for our programmes. All our programmes can be customized to cater to the needs of participants of different age groups.
