| Synopsis | There is no place in Singapore called ‘Dumont d’Urville Place’ or ‘Mount Duvaucel’. There is, however, a Raffles Place and there was a Mount Wallich. And yet early French explorers and naturalists like Dumont d’Urville, Diard and Duvaucel made major contributions to the natural history of the island. But the past is prologue. The past six decades have also seen the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at the National University of Singapore (and its predecessors) and the Museum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris collaborate closely on worldwide expeditions and in conducting biodiversity research. For the first time both institutions come together to share this rich history. And what a story it is! |
