POSTED ON BY Aw Jeanice

The December school holidays are finally here, and so are our Edutainment Zoom sessions for children and young families!

Season 3 brings to you a series of talks, demonstrations, storytelling and drawing activities, across a broad range of topics such as the science of evolution, marine debris, eye-care, e-waste recycling, butterflies, amphibians and reptiles.

Tune in to our educational web sessions via Zoom on select Fridays and Saturdays, from 4 to 19 December 2020! Simply register for each session via the links below.

Session 1 – Storytelling & Eye Education (4 December 2020, 2–3 pm)

Our partner from the Plano team is back again for an engaging story-telling session to educate young children on how they can take responsibility for their own device use, and share good screen use habits! There is also a short quiz with prizes to be won!

If you have missed their enriching session in September’s Edutainment Zoom season 2, you are in luck—the team will be narrating the story of “The Ray Keepers” from The Plano Adventures book series: Professor Plano and his twin sidekicks, Zed and Zee, journeying together to find ingredients for the Clear Vision Recipe.

Session 3 – The A-B-Cs of E-waste (12 December 2020, 2–3 pm)

Have you ever wondered what happens to electronics such as handphones, computers and television sets when we discard them? Our partner Alterpacks invites Dr Ajit Aras from Sharp Singapore, and together they take apart household electronics and demonstrate how we can reduce, reuse and recycle the bits and bytes—as easy as A-B-C!

Session 4– Storytelling: Evolution of Species (12 December 2020, 4–5 pm)

The natural world around us is teeming with life that is as diverse as they come! How and why do many animals look so different? Through a storytelling session by Dr Sharon Wong, learn about English naturalists Charles Darwin, who discovered how every living thing on earth has a common ancestor, and are related. There will be fun quizzes too!

Session 5 – A Trashy Tale on Marine Debris (18 December 2020, 2–3 pm)

Debris and trash floating in our oceans is becoming a common sight, as are beaches strewn with rubbish brought in by the waves. Why should we care about marine debris, and what can we do to help keep our beaches clean? Lester Tan from The Nature Society (Singapore), marine conservation group, is here to share with you a visual tale about marine debris!

Session 6– Draw with me! Reptiles & Amphibians of Singapore (19 December 2020, 5–6 pm)

In a content-packed session with wildlife illustrator and professional photographer, Kenneth Chin, you will learn to make visual notes by sketching and write-ups. In the meantime, as we learn about the herpetological (amphibian and reptile) fauna in Singapore, he challenges us to explore and discover the wildlife around us. He also hopes to dispel people’s fears of snakes by helping them understand them better.
