Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

Pond Gardens and River Plains (previously Bishan Park 1 and 2, respectively) make up the 62-hectare Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. Since its makeover in 2011, the Park has been revitalised with the conversion of its former concrete canal into a natural meandering river, along with a wide array of amenities and community spaces catering to all. The project – Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters@Kallang River-Bishan Park – is a partnership between the Public Utilities Board and the National Parks Board, and has culminated in the creation of more green and blue spaces at the popular park.

Located in Pond Gardens is an artificial wetland that functions as a cleansing biotope. Its special selection of plants was chosen for their ability to filter pollutants and absorb nutrients, maintaining the water quality of the ponds and river. Highlights of the Park include a Riverside Gallery, a community garden and a children’s water playground, with the river as one of the main attractions. The waterway not only provides opportunities for visitors to get closer to water, it also brings nature closer to them. Apart from the thriving aquatic plants there, common fauna include dragonflies, butterflies and water birds such as the White-breasted Waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus) and Little Egret (Egretta garzetta).
