Upper Seletar Reservoir

The Upper Seletar Reservoir was created by damming the Seletar River. It was then known as Seletar Reservoir but later had its name changed to differentiate it from the newer Lower Seletar Reservoir.  It is one of the four reservoirs bounding the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. The other reservoirs include MacRitchie Reservoir, Upper Pierce Reservoir and Lower Peirce Reservoir. Being surrounded by primary and secondary forests, the reservoir is protected from agricultural activities and thus, ensuring the quality of its water.

This reservoir measures a top surface area of 3.24 sq km and is 17 m deep. Water in the reservoir is a collection of natural run-off from the surrounding catchment areas, as well as water pumped from eight adjacent streams. This water is transferred to Lower Peirce Reservoir and then to the Woodleigh Waterworks for treatment via pipes. To the west of the reservoir lies the Singapore Zoological Gardens and to the east of the reservoir is the 15 ha Upper Seletar Reservoir Park. The park houses a golf course and driving range that is open to the public. There is also a designated area for sport fishing and a look-out tower located within the park.

Some of the wildlife that can be spotted at Upper Seletar Reservoir includes the Puff-faced Water Snake (Homalopsis buccata), Will-o-wisp Damselfly (Amphicnemis gracilis), Crenulated Spreadwing Damselfly (Lestes praemorsus decipiens) and Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa). An extremely rare visitor, the Masked Finfoot (Heliopais personata), has also been occasionally spotted in some years.
