Tree Top Walk

Description

The Tree Top Walk is a 250 m long bridge suspended over a mature secondary forest. The bridge links the two highest points in MacRitchie, Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang. At its highest point, it is 25 m above the forest floor. In order to get to the Tree Top Walk, one would have to take either a 4.5 km walk from MacRitchie Reservoir or a 2.5 km walk from the carpark at Venus Drive. These routes will pass through secondary forest where one can explore the lower layers of the forest – ground layer, shrubs and trees, before getting to the Tree Top Walk for a better view of the canopy and emergent layers.

From the Tree Top Walk, there is a spectacular view of some of the tallest trees in the forest like the Medang (Litsea elliptica), Terentang (Campnospermum auriculatum) and the Cheng Tng Tree (Scaphium macropodum). This bridge also provides a vantage point where more than 100 birds have been observed. A few of our native ones include the Greater Racket-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus paradises), Banded Woodpecker (Chrysophlegma miniaceus) and the Olive-winged Bulbul (Pycnonotus plumosus). Other animals you may spot from the Tree Top Walk include the Malayan Colugo (Galeopterus variegatus) and Long-tailed Macaques (Macaca fascicularis).

Apart from being a nature recreation site, the Tree Top Walk also provides a platform for forest canopy research, surveys and studies on plant identification and the forest ecosystems. Do take note that the Tree Top Walk is closed on Mondays (except Public Holidays) for research and maintenance. Opening hours are 9am to 5pm on Tuesdays to Fridays and 8.30am to 5pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. There is also a limit of 30 persons on the bridge at any one time.
