Description

Corduliids are medium to large dragonflies with brilliant green eyes (brown when immature). The eyes meet broadly along the top of the head. The body is metallic green or bluish-purple. Most species are scare and difficult to find. They are constantly on the wing, are extremely swift and often keep to shadows. Some species may hover briefly, but disappear at the least disturbance. When they do perch, typically when resting at night, they usually hang vertically from twigs, or obliquely from tree trunks.

Some 360 species (in 45 genera) occur worldwide, with 15 in Peninsular Malaysia. In Singapore, there are five species.
