Description

Platycnemididae are small to medium-sized damselflies characterised by a moderately light build, fairly narrow hyaline wings with rather open reticulation. The head is generally lighter and (lengthwise) narrower than in Coenagrionidae and they have many long thin spines on the femora and tibiae. In some species, the tibiae are widened and brightly coloured. They inhabit forest streams, swamps, shady ponds and channels.

Over 210 species (in 25 genera) are known worldwide, with 11 species in Peninsular Malaysia. Five species occur in Singapore.
