Description

Members of this family are medium-sized damselflies with stout and relatively short bodies, generally dark abdomens and short legs. Their wings are not stalked and have rather dense reticulation. They breed in running water in forest streams.

The family includes some 65 known species in nine genera, all but one occurring in tropical or subtropical Asia. Three species are known from Peninsular Malaysia. In Singapore, two species have been recorded, but one of them is already nationally extinct.
