Description

These are large damselflies with body lengths of about 50 to 60 mm. They are characterised by broad, densely reticulated wings, which are not abruptly narrowed or stalked near the base. Demoiselles have metallic green bodies and long, thin legs. They are usually found along forest streams. The males usually defend territories and show complex courtship behaviour and mate guarding.

The family (excluding the New World Hetaerina and related genera) includes over 105 species in 17 genera worldwide. There are six species in Peninsular Malaysia. One of the three species known from Singapore is nationally extinct.
