Description

Also known as Chlamydomonadales, members are flagellate or pseudoflagellate green algae. Members can be unicellular with two flagella as in Chlamydomonas or multicellular. In colonial members, the number of cells can vary from 4–32 in Gonium to 500 or more in Volvox. Reproduction is asexual as well as sexual. In the former, all cells are involved, although larger colonies may have vegetative and reproductive cells. Sexual reproduction varies from isogamous, anisogamous to oogamous.
