Description

Nocturnal birds with soft, mottled plumage. They have a weak bill with a large gape. They catch insects while flying, aided by long rictal bristles at the base of the bill. They have long, slender wings that allow great agility in the air. In the day, nightjars retire to the shade of a tree, sitting on the ground.

Three species of nightjars are found in Singapore.
