Description

A very large and diverse family of small to medium sized trees, shrubs and herbs. Leaves are spiral, alternate or opposite, simple or lobed. Stipules are usually present but may be reduced to hairs or spines. Flowers are unisexual, usually small, green, yellow or white and in clusters of panicles, spikes. The fruit is usually a three-lobed woody capsule.
