Description

A large family of mostly tropical trees, shrubs, climbers or herbs. All plant parts have latex. Leaves are alternate or spiral, simple and often irregularly lobed in saplings. Stipules are present, and form a 'cup' over the apical bud and leave prominent scars on the twig. The flowers are small or minute and aggregate in paired inflorescences, in the form of panicles, heads, discs and figs. The ‘fruits’ are united into large compound structures.
